As the local train chugs beyond Jogeshwari/Goregaon in Bombay, you enter “Gujju” land and who can resist the temptation of “MM Mithaiwala” located on the west of Malad, if you alight here.
“MM Mithaiwala” has been existing for ages and it used to be my favourite joint for Gujju snacks way back in the 80s. Their speciality – Khaman Dhokla, Khandvi, Patra, Fafda-Jalebi and Moong dal bhajiya. I remember they used to serve these mouth-watering items on Patravali or Pattal leaves with hot and sweet chutney.
On a recent visit to Bombay, I longed to savour the Moong dal bhajiya (a speciality of Bombay) but it was not available at most of the “Gujarati” joints. MM Mithaiwala still dishes out the heavenly “Gujarati” snacks as before.
